It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. My father, Bro. Ruban Shankar and my mother, Sis. Christinal Mohana got married in 1978. In 1981, in the midst of complications, I was born. “I was cast upon Thee from the womb: Thou art my God from my mother’s womb” (Psalm 22:10). Few years later, my father suffered an illness and when he trusted the LORD Jesus, he was healed and got saved. My staunch Hindu mother, did not accept my father’s new found faith. She threw the Bible out on the road. Yet the LORD touched and saved her. But now she testifies with tears that she reads the same Word.

Though the financial condition of my family was not strong yet, our parents admitted us in a good school. I remember my mother saying to the LORD standing outside the school, “LORD! For Thine and Thy kingdom, we have admitted our children in this school.” The LORD who answers the prayer of the parents heard her prayers. The LORD led us to Perambur A.C.A. to strengthen our faith and spiritual growth.  But the intense financial crisis made us to struggle even for food. Crisis Cupboard of our Church provided food for us. Every month we were summoned before the authorities for not paying the school fees. In those hard times, the LORD graciously provided all our needs through God’s people of the Church.

During my teen age, just as any other cricket crazy boy, I loved cricket to the core. I would do any thing for this game. In a fit of this madness, I once went to the extreme of smashing my brother’s head. My friends stopped me. Through this game, I got in touch with bad company of my locality and school and they led me astray. “Evil communications corrupt good manners”  (1Corinthians 15:33). I was a holy child at home and vile outside. It was at this time, one of my friends accepted the LORD Jesus and shared with me the Gospel in the cricket field. Though I avoided him, the LORD used him to reveal His love. I began to think of following the LORD.

In class ten, being gripped with fear of board examination, I attended A.C.A. Perambur. Here the LORD saved and anointed me. Since then there was a complete change in me. My brother and sister whom I hated before my repentance and baptism, saw the real change in me when I showed my love and care to them. Nobody but the LORD alone can change the nature of a person. In school, I was noted for classroom mischiefs. The intense change that the LORD wrought in me left me restless until I accepted my mistake. It would not let me lie to my friends or cheat my teachers when I did not complete my home work or would not copy in exams even when help was offered. Some of my friends initially thought I had gone mad and few thought that I acted. Finally, they understood that it was the LORD Jesus who changed me. My brother and sister too got saved.

My father would come to our bedside and pray for us till the last day of his life. After high school, I followed Godly counsel and took English Literature as my major subject. The LORD helped me to complete my M.Phil. In the college where I worked, it was the LORD who stood with me and granted the courage and exalted me. The LORD alone can raise the poor out of the dust. At Jerusalem College of Engineering as a lecturer, the LORD helped me to achieve what others could not. In 2012, the LORD gave me a suitable life partner, Theresa Punitha Rani and blessed our marriage. He also performed miracles and has given us Samuel Joshua and Daphnah Deborah.

In 2016, the LORD called us for the full time service. I was assisting Church cleaning, P.A. System, Sunday School and Youth Ministry. But now the LORD has put us in full time service for Him.  We are glad and blessed to be under the leadership of our spiritual leaders. We give all glory and honour to our blessed Redeemer, LORD Jesus Christ!

“If it had not been the LORD who was on our side ……  when men rose up against  us: Blessed  be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth” (Psalm 124: 1-6).
