The viewpoint of a young man or woman for God must not be as near the highest as you can get, it must be the highest. The view point to maintain is that as you are here for one purpose only- to be captives in the train of Christ’s triumphs. You are not in God’s showroom; you are here to exhibit one thing- the absolute captivity of your lives to Jesus Christ. How small the other points of view are – “I am standing alone battling for Jesus, I have to maintain the cause of Christ and hold this fort for Him.” Paul says, “I am in the train of a conqueror, and it does not matter what the difficulties are I am always led in triumph.” Is this idea being worked out practically in you? It is a shameful thing for a Christian to talk about getting the victory through the arm of flesh. The Victor ought to have got you so completely that it is His victory all the time and you are more than conquerors through Him.

You have to wrestle against the things that prevent you from getting to God and you wrestle in prayer for others, but never say that you wrestle with God in prayer; If you do wrestle with God, you will be crippled all the rest of your life. If God comes in some way you do not want, you take hold of Him as Jacob did and wrestle with Him, you compel Him to put you out of joint. God does not give you overcoming life; He gives you life as you overcome. If there is no strain there is no strength. Are you asking God to give you life, liberty and joy? He cannot, unless you will accept the strain.

Overcome your own timidity and take the step and God will give you to eat of the tree of life and you will get nourishment. If you spend yourself out physically, you become exhausted but spend yourself spiritually and you get more strength. God never gives strength for tomorrow or for the next hour, but only for the strain of the minute. Always distinguish between God’s order and His permissive will-His providential purpose towards you. God’s order is unchangeable. His permissive will is that with which you must wrestle before Him. God’s permissive will is the means whereby His sons and daughters are to be manifested. You are filled with odour of Jesus and wherever you go, you are a wonderful refreshment to God.

One day Dr. Charles, composer of songs, visited Pasadena, California. Early that morning he had an opportunity to walk through some of the famous rose gardens when the full fragrance of the flowers filled the air. Later in the day he arrived at the hotel where a Bible conference was being held. As he took his seat everyone smelt the pleasing aroma on his clothing. He replied, “My prayer is that I may walk so closely with the Lord Jesus that the fragrance of His grace will pervade my being. I want them to know by my words, actions and songs that I have been with Jesus.”

Emit the sweet fragrance of Jesus Christ to the souls around you.
