Exodus 33: 19, “I will make all My goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee.”

Isaiah 9: 6, “His Name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Great goodness is found in God’s Name. In this year 2018, the LORD tells yo ,“All the blessings that you need in your life are in My Name!” When you think of a name, you think of that person. The LORD proclaims His Name to make you to meditate of Him. History has many great names. They are dead and can do no good to us. But the Name of Jesus Christ is alive forevermore.  In the Scriptures, among the estimated 3000 revealed Names of God, few are found in Isaiah 9:6. Prophet Isaiah looks 740 years into the future to see the coming of Jesus, the Messiah. He envisions the Cradle, the Cross and the Crown. What God said, “I will make My goodness to pass,” He meant what Isaiah prophesied. If Moses had experienced the goodness of God without knowing God’s Name, how much more we, who have been made known of God’s Name shall experience His goodness. Since God who is spoken off here will be what He is called, He shall fulfil His title. He is the Wonderful Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace.”

  1. DIVINE NAME FOR THE DECISIONS OF LIFE: “His Name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor ….” (Isaiah 9: 6) In Hebrew Bible, these two titles ‘Wonderful Counsellor’ are shown as one. The LORD Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor. Since His Name qualifies Him to take care of the decisions of life, you can go to Him for counsel. There are two things about Him (1) His Authority (2) His Ability. In those days, a counselor speaks of a king. The government of the ‘Wonderful Counselor’ is to lead and we are to follow. Amidst great names of the Bible, the LORD’s Name stands tall. Not only this Name did what no one else could do but also supernatural things. To an architect, He is the Chief Cornerstone. To an artist, He is altogether lovely. To an astronomer, He is the bright and morning star. To a baker, He is the Bread of Life. To sinners like us, He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of this world. There is no end to the attributes of this incomparable God. The ‘Wonderful Counsellor’ says, “My child! This year, I am going to be your Wonderful Counsellor. Do not be perplexed. Bring all your matters regarding you, your family, your children, their education, your job and ministry. I will guide you with mine eye.” Do not go to any man for advice, suggestions or counsel. Do not do anything without my guidance. As a Guide, the LORD unites people and leads them in a straight path to have fellowship with Him. David says, “I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel…” (Psalm 16: 7).
  1. DIVINE NAME FOR THE DEMANDS OF LIFE: “His Name shall be called…. the mighty God….” (Isaiah 9: 6). The Mighty God in Hebrew is “El-Gibbor”. Confess every morning, “LORD, You are my El-Gibbor. You are the Master of my life.” He is more powerful than any other human being. He is super natural. Since He is El-Gibbor, He can take care of all the demands of your life. He does two things. (1) He Creates (2) He Controls. The Bible introduces God, first as the Creator. A child was born as God and a son was given as a man. The one who is seen in swaddling clothes is the same one who stepped out and said, “Let there be light.” The uncreated creator is the supreme fact of history, science, life and eternity. Unlike man, He created everything out of nothing. The LORD says, “My child! If you trust Me, this year, I will create something out of nothing!” El-Gibbor who has got the whole world in His hands, holds your future too. Isaiah 9: 6 – 7, “The government shall be upon His shoulder. Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end.”Instead of looking for the ways to handle the problems, pressures, predicaments, perils and perplexities, run to God for all the demands of life. He is mighty enough to create, convert and control all situations. El-Gibbor says, “Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water. This is but a light thing”(2 Kings 3:17&18). He will provide for you supernaturally through an unexpected source.
  1. DIVINE NAME FOR THE DIFFICULTIES OF LIFE: “His Name shall be called…..the Everlasting Father…..” (Isaiah 9: 6). This is one of God’s sweetest Names. You may have lost your earthly father but you are never without a Heavenly Father who takes care of the difficulties of life. Prophet Isaiah says two things about Him (1) He loves (2) He leads. His love denotes His care and concern. As a father pities his children, so the LORD pities them that fear Him. He is God to all but Father only to His children who are saved by His grace, sanctified by His word and secured by His Spirit. He loves you just the way you are. He who rules over the vast eternity is your Eternal Father. He takes the time to care for you. In Hebrew, a father is the designation of respect and reverence. A father is the protector, the provider and the preserver of the family. This year, you shall experience Him as the Father for your physical, financial, emotional and spiritual needs. The nearest and the dearest to a father’s heart is his own children. A father will be willing to fight for the safety, security and shelter of his children. It is the father’s responsibility to love, lift and lead his family. You can separate a son from his father but you cannot separate a father from his son even if he is a prodigal. If you come back to God saying, “Father! I’m sorry!” the LORD will take you as His son and will be enough for the difficulties of life. If an evil earthly father knows how to give good gifts to his children, how much more shall He, your Heavenly Father give good things to you who ask Him?
  1. DIVINE NAME FOR THE DISTURBANCES OF LIFE: “His Name shall be called ….. the Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9: 6). It is interesting to note that in the total of 5500 years of recorded civilization, only 286 years were spent without war somewhere on Earth. Yet during the same period of time, over 8000 peace treaties have been made. We live in a world that searches, strives and starves for peace. However our world looks for peace where there is no peace. Peace cannot be found in possessions, positions, politics or prestige but in the person whose Name is Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace alone. He is more than qualified to take care of the disturbances of life. Since He is the Prince of Peace, we can (1) Rest (2) Rely on Him. The word “Prince” speaks of a commander, a general and a captain of those who are under his watch, kept safe and peaceful. When the Prince of Peace reigns in your life, the peace of God will rule in your hearts. Corrie Ten Boom once said, “When I look at the world, I get distressed. When I look at myself, I get depressed. But when I look at Jesus I am at rest.” Learning to rest in Him is the secret to experience His peace. Rely on Him. The Hebrew meaning for Prince is explained in Isaiah 26: 3, “Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee.” The Hebrew word for “stay” is “samach” which means staff that supports. This is closely related to the shepherd. When the shepherds tend the flock in the wilderness, they get very tired and exhausted. Then they cast their entire burden on their staff and lean on it for support. Thank God! Jesus Christ is the Shepherd’s Staff. Rest and rely on Him when you feel weak. Let 2018 be a year of God’s goodness.
