“Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days,  which ye will not believe, though it be told  you” (Habakkuk 1:5).

The LORD will lead you and grant you His peace this year. He will place His sovereign greatness in your weakness and fill the incompleteness with His sufficiency. This year, you shall experience God’s marvellous works. Habakkuk in a vision, saw all the questions of the people of Israel and answered them prophetically.  The questions were: Why is God silent? Why does He not save? Why does He cause to see grievance? Why is justice perverted? Are you having the same questions in your mind? The LORD will answer your prayers and save your loved ones. He will  make you a mighty weapon. Psalm 139:4, “ ….. marvellous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right will.” The LORD promises five marvellous works: Marvellous acquaintance, marvellous abundance, marvellous acceptance, marvellous allegiance and marvellous assurance.

  1. MARVELLOUS ACQUAINTANCE: “….. they (Rulers and Elders of Israel) marvelled; and they took knowledge of them (Peter and John), that they had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13). The rulers and the elders of the people marvelled at the boldness in the speech of the unlearned and ignorant Peter and John. Their speech resembled that of the LORD Jesus Christ. The LORD also had wrought a great miracle of making a born lame man to walk. Now the rulers and elders could not even speak against them. What was the secret of their boldness? They had been with Jesus. This year, set aside all the works and give priority to spend time with God. More than being with colleagues, friends, relatives decide primarily to be with Jesus. ‘God develops spiritual power in our lives through the pressures of hard places.’ Our worth to God in public depends on what we are in private. More than the ministry, our fellowship with God is highly commendable in His sight. The Church may face persecution but God will grant unusual boldness. When those three Hebrew men faced opposition, God made them bold and put a difference between them and others. These three men spoke fearlessly like Peter and John. When our LORD taught in the temple, “….. the Jews marvelled saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?” (John 7:15) The reason for all these marvellous things is His marvellous acquaintance with God. John 15:1 is the picture of this marvellous acquaintance. As the branch abides in the vine for sap, food and strength, abide in Christ for His nature and revelation of God. Nobody will be able to stand up against you.

  1. MARVELLOUS ABUNDANCE: “For he (Peter) was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken” (Luke 5:9). Note the word, “astonished” in this verse. This is the second marvellous thing that the LORD did for His people. Jesus turned the night of failure into a great success. They toiled hard all through the previous night but caught nothing. But they inclosed a great multitude of fishes the next morning. The secret of success is in verse 5, “Simon answering said unto Him…. nevertheless at Thy word, I will let down the net.” Do you want marvellous abundance? Do what the LORD says. One man’s faith in God’s word brought abundance of blessings. The multitude of fishes refer to the multitude of souls. This is the year of rich harvest of souls for the Kingdom of God. The LORD says, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). Look what the LORD said, “I will make you.” You cannot make yourself. You might have toiled hard with your strength and failed miserably. The LORD says, “I will make you a soul winner in 2019.” This is God’s plan for you. They forsook all and followed Jesus. God expects total commitment from you. Since God’s blessings are always in abundance, He will fill the Church with abundance of souls. The LORD will bring different kinds of people into the Church and change them. The condition to experience the abundance of souls, is prayer. “Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock” (Ezekiel 36:37).
  1. MARVELLOUS ACCEPTANCE: “Jesus saith unto them, ….. The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes” (Matthew 21:42). When the builders began building, they rejected an odd looking stone. When the headstone of the corner was missing, they found it was the stone that they refused. The rejected stone refers to the LORD Jesus. The builders refer to the Jews. Jesus became the head of everything which is marvellous in the eyes of those who accepted Him. What applies to Jesus Christ applies to us, as well. Like Jesus, you may have been rejected by your own. But the LORD will make you indispensable. They will say, “Help us. We cannot make progress without your support.” Jesus said in Verse 44, “And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.” The nation refers to the Gentiles. When the Jews rejected the Gospel preached by Paul and Barnabas, then they preached to the Gentiles who received it with gladness.“….. but seeing ye (Jews) put it (the Word of God) from you…..lo, we turn to the Gentiles. When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life, believed” (Acts 13:46, 48). Only when we are led by the Holy Spirit, we shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh and bring forth fruits of repentance and fruit of the Spirit. You shall experience marvellous acceptance this year.
  1. MARVELLOUS ALLEGIANCE: “The man answered and said unto them, why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence He is, and yet He hath opened mine eyes” (John 9:30). The LORD Jesus performed a marvellous thing in opening the eyes of a man who was born blind. Medical science can cure a defect after a birth. But it cannot cure a defect that is from birth. Jesus Christ can cure any defect. This born blind man is a picture of humanity born in sin, which consequently became spiritually blind. Allegiance with the LORD Jesus Christ alone will open the blind eyes of the human race. God opened his physical and spiritual eyes. Jesus gave the greatest revelation to the man whom He healed. Jesus said to him, “Thou hast both seen Him, and it is He that talketh with thee” (John 9:37). The word “both” refers to seeing Him both physically and spiritually. He believed that Jesus was, and is and will be the Messiah for physical healing and great salvation. What a man thinks of Christ determines his moral condition. The marvellous act of God is that He opens the eyes of unbelievers to see Him as Saviour, and the believers to see Him as LORD. “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” is the condition to experience this (John 9:7). In our salvation, He washed us. But to get sanctified, we need to sanctify ourselves. Without holiness, we cannot experience marvellous allegiance.
  1. MARVELLOUS ASSURANCE: “And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple” (Luke 1:21). Zechariah and Elizabeth, a Godly and aged couple walked in all the commandments of the Lord. In those days, the priest were divided into eight divisions. Each day fifty priests ministered in the temple. On one day, the lot fell upon Zechariah, who was of the course of Abia. It was an honour that comes only once in a lifetime. He had to take the blood and coal of fire in a pan from the altar to the Holy Place and sprinkle the blood and burn incense before the LORD. Usually the son of the officiating priest would help his father to carry things and open the big door of the temple. Since Zechariah did not have a son, he was mocked. Although he was staggering outside and broken inside, yet he ministered before the LORD. Are you being mocked and ridiculed? Serve God faithfully. You shall experience the Heavenly visitation assuring you of marvellous miracles. “And thou shalt have joy and gladness…..” (Luke 1: 14). Zechariah means, “Yahweh remembers.” Elizabeth means, “God is my covenant.” John means, “God is gracious.” So the meaning of the family of Zechariah is, “God remembered His covenant and has been gracious to me.” When your own people forget you, the God of Covenant will never forget you. Determine to serve God, you shall experience Marvellous assurance. Your reproach shall be rolled away. “Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of Hosts, which dwelleth in mouth Zion” (Isaiah 8:18).
